Equality & Diversity
Organisations such as the Cosmopolitan Housing Group operate within the most disadvantaged sections of the community, delivering services to people that experience discrimination. We have a moral and service-led obligation to respond to and meet the social diversity that exists within our society and a duty to promote a culture of community cohesion and celebrate difference. In addition, we have a legal and regulatory responsibility to promote equality of opportunity in all our activities.
Policy Details The Group has a comprehensive Equality and Diversity Strategy which it reviews on an annual basis. It sets out the Group’s commitments to a broad range of minority groups. Full details of our Equality and Diversity Strategy may be located here. Our strategy recognises that:
Disability Equality Scheme Cosmopolitan Housing Group is committed to meeting the needs of all its existing and future customers and staff. It believes that its residents should be able to live in communities where all persons may participate fairly and equally and that opportunities for taking up and maintaining employment with the Group are maximised regardless of a person’s disability.
The Group has developed a Disability Equality Scheme to set out in detail how it will meet the needs of disabled staff and service users to ensure that they receive an equal or enhanced level of service. The scheme consists of the following:
Disability Equality Policy – This document sets out the Group’s commitments and approach to disability equality.
Disability Equality Action Plan – This document sets out the detailed actions that the Group will undertake in fulfilment of its commitments to disability equality.
The Group’s commitments to achieving Disability Equality are on-going. We welcome feedback on how the Group can improve its approach to disability equality. Cosmopolitan Housing Group Launches new Gender Equality Scheme
Cosmopolitan Housing Group is committed to eliminating discrimination, promoting equality and celebrating diversity in all activities in which it engages. As part of the Group's commitment to delivering its Equality and Diversity Strategy, it has published its new Gender Equality Scheme.
The Gender Equality Scheme sets out the way in which the Group will seek to combat gender inequalities in relation to its governance, staffing and service delivery. The scheme consists of a Policy and an Action Plan, and has been developed as a 'live' scheme that will evolve over time.
The CHG Gender Equality Policy sets out how the Group will meet the general and specific duties to promote gender equality as required by the Equality Act 2006, and passed on to housing associations through the Housing Corporation Circular 10/07. It will use this as the platform for promoting gender equality, including those persons that identify themselves as transsexual.
The Group will monitor progress against its Gender Equality Action Plan and regularly update it to ensure that it remains relevant and in line with the Group's values and objectives.
