Cosmopolitan Housing Group Limited was established as part of the formation of the Cosmopolitan Group structure in April 2003. It is the Parent organisation within the Group, responsible for bringing a diverse range of organisation together under a common banner, focussed on delivering high quality housing related products.

The origins of the Group date back to 1969, and the establishment of Liverpool and District Student Housing Association. Since this time, the organisation underwent several name changes, most notably to Young Persons Housing Association, before adopting Cosmopolitan Housing Association. The organisation’s specialist roots are well described by the previous names, concentrating in the early years on the development and management of accommodation for students and young people. However, the organisation has enjoyed continued organic growth since its establishment, increasing its geographical scope of operations and the number of homes in management.

The movement to a Group Structure in April 2003 enabled the organisation to separate out its different business streams into different companies. Whilst the Housing Association remained, it saw the creation of Sister Companies, one specifically for the development of student and key-worker homes and a second company to undertake commercial developments.

The Parent organisation has enabled the organisation to maintain a common and well respected identity, whilst benefiting from shared overheads and executive knowledge and expertise.

There are currently three Subsidiary organisations within the Group. Details of these are as follows:

Cosmopolitan Housing Association

Cosmopolitan Housing Association Limited is a traditional registered social landlord. In the early years the organisation concentrated on the development and management of accommodation for students and young people, but the securing of a stock transfer in Halton enabled it to reposition itself as a general needs housing provider across an increasing geographical base.

The association now owns and manages approximately 1900 properties in Liverpool, Wirral, Halton, Knowsley, Sefton, St Helens and West Lancashire.


Cosmopolitan Student Homes

Cosmopolitan Student Homes is a relatively new organisation, created in 2004 as a subsidiary of the Cosmopolitan Housing Group. It is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity.

Student Homes currently has over 3100 units of student and young professional’s accommodation, with further growth in the development pipeline. Its stock is largely distributed across the North of England, with properties located in Liverpool, Manchester, Salford, Preston, and Stratford-upon-Avon.

The focus of Student Homes is not just in the provision of high quality accommodation, but also in the delivery of a holistic range of housing related services that contribute to its residents’ overall "lifestyle experience". Student Homes has a history of working in close partnership with Universities and Colleges, and its properties are usually located in city centre or campus locations, close to its residents’ place of study or work.


Cosmopolitan Enterprises

Cosmopolitan Enterprises Limited was formed as Cosmopolitan Commercial Limited on 20th June 2003 and began trading on 1st April 2005 as a company within the Cosmopolitan Housing Group. It has recently undergone a change of name to better reflect the nature of its business activities. It is a Company Limited by Shares, and trades for profit which is covenanted towards the charitable activities of the Group.

Cosmopolitan Enterprises was established to enable the Group to improve its market position and take maximum advantage of new commercially orientated housing and development opportunities that allow it to increase and enhance its social and student housing stock.
